#LazyBlogging August: All The Bright Places

#LazyBlogging August: All The Bright Places

Hi guys!

I'm going to attempt to write this review without giving away any spoilers so feel free to read ahead even if you haven't got round to reading 'All The Bright Places' by Jennifer Niven yet!

All The Bright Places

There is so much I could say about this book, it's perfect in so many ways.

Jennifer Niven explores the idea of mental health issues, mainly depression and grief, with so much respect but at the same time with such realism.

Niven manages to get across the idea that not everyone can be 'saved' from illness, life or accidents and that those of us who are left behind by someone shouldn't blame ourselves for the path that person's life took.

What I also found amazing about 'All The Bright Places' is how it presents depression. We see through both characters, Finch and Violet, that even when you're suffering from the illness that you can still have fun. I commend Niven so much for this portrayal, as it's true that whilst depression can make you feel absolutely awful it doesn't necessarily mean that every single day and second is bad.

Amongst the exploration of mental illness in this book is also an extremely romantic and fantastical love story. The tenderness and understanding between Finch and Violet will make any reader yearn for more. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I couldn't put this book down until I had finished it (even through the tears it caused me to shed)!

If you're looking for a modern Young Adult fiction book that deals with both teenage romance and mental health then this is definitely the book for you!

Thank you for reading this review, I hope I've encouraged you to read this book if you haven't already! If you have read 'All The Bright Places' then let me know what you thought in the comments below!
